Radio parts:
Here are some part numbers for the radio (and the retail price
when this page was created):
HLN5105A - Internal Option Boards Shield $ 17.75
30-80052K06 - 20 Pin Ribbon Cable (for 2 stacked Internal
Option Boards) $ 18.00
30-80052K07 - 20 Pin Ribbon Cable (for 1 Internal

01-06707T52 - 128 mode scan U501 EPROM firmware chip $ 47.65
01-06710T70 - 64 modes/radio scan Dual Radio U501 Firmware chip
NLA
01-06710T07 - 64 modes/radio scan SP06 Dual Radio U501 firmware
chip $ 44.50
UNKNOWN PART NUMBER - Internal Advanced Securnet Option
Board U501 NLA
01-80016K02 - Mounting Tray $ 41.75
|
- The Internal Option Boards
Shield also covers chips U500, U501, U502, U503, U504, U506
and socket J301.
- The 20 pin ribbon cables are installed on the radio's Personality
Board at socket J301 and
they cable to an option board
or boards stacked under the Internal
Option Boards Shield (some other circuit boards also use
this socket). The option boards can be DTMF, Internal Securenet,
Single-tone, MDC-600, MDC-1200, etc. Only 2 option boards maximum
fit under the shield. The external Systems 9000 Option Expansion
Housing (it looks like the Siren/PA housing) or Siren/PA can
also be used if more than 2 option boards
are needed.
- The 64 mode, 64 mode/radio and 128 mode scan U501 chip designations
ONLY refer to the number of "non-priority receiver scan"
modes allowed. This has nothing to do with the maximum number
of modes that can be programmed into the radio.
- The main difference between the 64 mode and 128 mode
firmware chips is the number of "non-priority receiver scan"
modes allowed. Both firmware chips allow up to 255 modes maximum
to be programmed (special RSS
is required to go beyond 64 modes), but the maximum number
of non-priority scan modes is determined by the firmware chip.
- The 128 mode U501 firmware chip does not support the RSS option "Alert tone on
volume change". When you are not receiving any signal and
you change the volume setting, the radio can inject a tone into
the speaker so you can hear the actual volume level as it changes.
Of course, if the receiver picks up a signal the tone is removed
so you can hear the signal. If you must have this feature then
you will need the 64 mode firmware chip. I do not know if there
are any other compatibility problems with this chip. It was developed
from an older version of the 64 mode firmware and may or may
not be missing other updates?
- The NLA 01-06710T70 (it
is also known as HLN5027ASP04) 64 mode per radio firmware chip
for true dual radios (i.e. two Syntor X 9000 radios on a single
control head). This chip is used in both Syntor X 9000
radios and it is works with either the HHCH/SIU or Systems 9000 control heads.
In additional special RSS,
cables and/or hardware is required to make Systems
9000 or SIU dual radios
work. Dual radios are always on completely different band and
frequency ranges (i.e. VHF and UHF, etc.).
- The HLN5027ASP06 dual radio firmware chip is a special chip
for a Syntor X 9000 / Spectra dual radio. The Spectra is only
usable as an auxiliary receiver (i.e. it is not a true dual radio
because the Spectra can not transmit). Very special RSS,
cables and hardware are required for this setup.
- Special U501 firmware required when an Advanced Securenet
Option Board is installed inside the radio drawer. This firmware
is for up to a 64 mode scan radio. I do not have this U501 part
number.
- There is also a non-factory hack of the U501 firmware that
allows up to 255 "non-priority receiver scan" modes.
This never was available from Motorola and is very
rare.
- Remember, the U502 EEPROM chip must also be
the 28 pin W930 chip in order to exceed 32 modes on any Syntor
X 9000 radio.
Radio cable parts:
Here are some part numbers for the J1 and control head connectors
(and the retail price when this page was created):
66-84690C02 - Contact Pin Removal Tool $ 1.90 (J1 only)
09-84151B03 - Contact Pins (5 / package) $ 2.15 (for J1 pins
1 through 37)
09-80227B01 - Power Connector Pin $ 2.85 (for J1 A or B pins)
32-80004L01 - Gasket $ 4.70 (J1)
36-80220B06 - Connector Knob $ 38.75 (J1)
42-80156B01 - Retainer ring $ 2.15 (used on the J1 Connector
Knob)
15-80216B02 - Back Connector Housing $ 3.65 (the pins go into
this J1 part)
15-80217K01 - Front Connector Housing $ 3.25 (covers the J1 back
housing)
15-10183A17 - Speaker Connector Housing Plug $ .42
39-10184A44 - Speaker Contact Plug Pin (10 / package) $ 2.15
(2 are needed / housing)
REX-1070B - Cable Repair Kit $ 28.75 (metal retainer clip for
control head connector)
The metal retainer replaces the plastic clips on the Systems
9000 control head connector.
HKN4241A - Complete cable, 17' negative ground $ 148.00
HKN4256A - Complete cable, 17' negative ground, keyloader port
$ 192.00
The keyloader port uses a different front connector housing than
the HKN4241A.
36-80220B05 - Extended Connector Knob $ 23.50 (J1 + T-cable)
42-80156B01 - Retainer ring $ 2.15 (used on the Extended Connector
Knob)
15-80212L01 - VIP II Connector Housing $ 6.30
|
- The Syntor X 9000 J1 connector body (front and back housing)
is thicker than most Syntor X J1 connector bodies, so
the X 9000 connector knob has a slightly longer shaft. Some
Syntor X cables that have 33 of the 37 pin positions filled use
the X 9000 front housing and longer connector knob.
- The keyloader port is used by the optional internal encryption
boards. These boards plug on top of and into the Personality
Board under the Internal Option
Boards Shield.
- The connector on the control head is a DB-50 with 6 pins
removed. The control head housing prevents a standard DB-50 female
connector from being used. It does look possible to modify a
DB-50 female to fit if you are in need of a connector to experiment
with.
- The 36-80220B05 extended connector knob is used in place
of the normal knob when stacking a normal radio connector on
top of a T-cable connector. The shaft of this knob is long enough
to go through the radio connector, the T-cable connector and
screw into the radio's J1 socket. For some reason it costs less
that the normal 36-80220B06 connector knob above? There is also
an extended connector knob that works with 2 T-cable connectors
and a radio connector (I do not have a part number for this triple
connector knob).
- The VIP II connector has the same pin hole locations as the
control head connector from the radio's cable, without the molded
right angle strain relief / hood. If you have to repair a cable
or roll your own, this connector can substitute for the cable's
control head connector, if you install a cable strain relief.
You can use standard over the counter female pins used for DB-XX
connectors (i.e. RS-232 connectors, etc.). The VIP II connector
is really intended to be used as a Vehicle Interface Port connector
on a Direct Entry Keyboard box. This is because the DEK box uses
the normal VIP connector to daisy chain to another DEK box.
- The 15-10183A17 and 39-10184A44 can also be used for the
speaker connector in home made Spectra low power programming
cables.
Radio T-connector parts:
Here are some part numbers for the T-connector (and the retail

- This T-connector is used for Programming, Siren/PA, VRS,
External Options Housing, PAC-RT and Dual Radio T-cables.
- The parts above are only for the T-connector itself. They
do not include any cable.
- Because the T-connector is usually sandwiched between the
radio and the control head cable, a signal pin must be provided
for every connection between the radio and the cable plugged
into the top of the T-connector. You can use as few 26 pins for
a simple programming cable or up to the full 37 pins (the factory
cables have all 37 pins).
- The retail price of one of these can be as high as $ 72.51
with all 37 signal pins.
- You will need the Extended Connector Knob and Retainer ring
(above) if you to install the T-connector
on the radio for normal operation (i.e. it can be used on a programming
cable, but is not needed because it is only a temporary connection).
Control head parts:
Here are some part numbers for the Systems 9000 control head
(and the retail price when this page was created):

- All of the keys are from a manual. New keys may not be exactly
the same color/shade as your old keys or the lettering can be
bold which may not match your old keys. As far as I know all
of the above keys are white except for the Red emergency key,
the 38-80092J01 Dim key and the 38-80092J05 BLANK key. Do not
confuse any of the above keys with DEK keys which are slightly
larger or with Spectra A5 or A7 keypad keys which are slightly
smaller.
- Some Systems 9000 control head already have "Dim"
printed above the key and need a blank key (38-80092J05). Other
Systems 9000 control heads need a key with "Dim" printed
on it (38-80092J01).
- Some of the regular keys that could be confused with common
rocker keys are marked with a reminder so you will not order
the wrong key.
- The key hole plugs are for any of the 6 key positions above
the alphanumeric display that are not used.
- Adding a numeric keypad: The
escutcheon and 9 additional keys (above) can be used to convert
a control head without a numeric keypad into one with a numeric
keypad. Neither of the escutcheons have the telephone style letter
labels (one is missing the * and # labels as well).
- The 13-80087J04 Escutcheon is for the MaraTrac Advanced head
and only has 2 button holes.
- I have been unable to locate the part number for the blank
Escutcheon without the keypad. It appears to be a NLA
part.
- The 15-05125X01 Front Panel part number was taken from a
new style SMD control head.
This one has DIM printed on the front. It looks like it will
work with the older control heads as well. Part numbers 15-05125X03
($ 11.75), 15-05125X04 ($ 20.75) and 15-05125X09 ($ 28.75) were
also listed. 15-05125X09 is listed as an Astro W9 front.
- The above Wing Screws look like speaker wing screws, but
they have a slightly different size screw. Speaker wing screws
will go into the control head, but will always feel loose. Control
head / DEK wing screws will not go very far into the speaker
before the threads bind up.
- The Long Trunnion Bracket above has two pairs of mounting
holes. A Systems 9000 control head and a DEK box can be mounted
together on this bracket (or 2 DEK boxes could be mounted together).
One of the above Trunnion Spacers is required for each of the
4 mounting holes (4 total) if you use all 4 holes, otherwise
only 2 Trunnion Spacers are required. This Trunnion Bracket is
the standard Systems 9000 control head mounting bracket. The
Long Trunnion Bracket has detents for the DEK
Trunnion Adapter Bracket below.
- The Short Trunnion Bracket above has one pair of mounting
holes. Unlike the Long Trunnion Bracket, the Short Trunnion Bracket
can not swing underneath the control head, but is still useful
in certain mounting situations (from above or behind). A pair
of Trunnion Spacers is required is required. The Short Trunnion
Bracket does not have detents for the DEK
Trunnion Adapter Bracket below.

- The connector housing and pins are attached to the speaker
wire and used to connect the speaker to the unique connector
on the radio's cable (see the cable parts
above). With the above connector parts you can make your own
adapters and use lots of different speakers without having to
butcher the X 9000 control head cable speaker connector in the
process.
- The speaker hangar bracket fits through the slot in back
of the speaker (near the top) and it can be used to hang the
speaker from the top edge of a partly rolled down vehicle window
or other convenient place. A 6-32 x 3/8" machine screw is
required to fasten it to the speaker. The control head wing screws
are 5mm x 10 metric and are not really interchangeable with the
speaker wing screws.

15-80212L01 - VIP II Connector Housing $ 6.30
|
- These key part numbers were taken from the 68P80103W09-A
DEK manual, some were sent to me via e-mail and I purchased others
just to find out what was on them.
- The keys marked "????"
are a complete mystery to me. Keep in mind, DEK keys are larger
then Systems 9000 control head keys.
- The VIP II connector is a Vehicle Interface Port connector
on the Direct Entry Keyboard (DEK) box and is used instead of
the control head VIP connector when a DEK is installed. You can
use standard over the counter female pins used for DB-XX connectors
(i.e. RS-232 connectors, etc.).
- The Trunnion Adapter Bracket is a very short adapter for
attaching a DEK directly above a Systems 9000 control head. It
attaches to the System 9000 control head Long or Short Trunnion
Bracket. They can also be used for stacking two or three DEKs
together. The control head requires 2 Trunnion Spacers and each
DEK requires 2 Trunnion Spacers.
- The Systems 9000 control head Long Trunnion Bracket listed
in the control head parts above can mount
a Systems 9000 control head and a DEK together (4 Trunnion Spacers
will be required) without using the above DEK Trunnion Adapter
Brackets. This Trunnion Bracket is the large one with 2 pairs
of mounting holes. This Long Trunnion Bracket must be attached
above the DEK and Systems 9000 control head for this to work.
The Long Trunnion Bracket has detents for the above Trunnion
Adapter Brackets.
- The Systems 9000 control head Long Trunnion Bracket listed
in the control head parts above can also
be used to mount 2 DEKs.
- The Short Trunnion Bracket listed in the control
head parts above does not have detents for the DEK Trunnion
Adapter Bracket above. However, a single DEK can be mounted in
this bracket.
- The above Wing Screws look like speaker wing screws, but
they have a slightly different size screw. Speaker wing screws
will go into the DEK, but will always feel loose. Control head
/ DEK wing screws will not go very far into the speaker before
the threads bind up.
Auxiliary Switch Panel parts:
Here are some common parts for the Auxiliary Switch Panel (also
know as a "Wild Card Box") (and the retail price when
this section was created):
40-84324C01 - Push/Push Switch $ 3.45
40-80065E02 - Momentary Switch $ 3.50
38-80057L01 - Pushbutton Key (5/pk) $ 5.50
54-80068L01 - Function Labels $ 33.25
65-84047E03 - Lamp Assembly $ 6.10
15-80056L02 - Front Cover $ 72.50
61-80058L01 - Front Lens $ 7.80
15-80055L01 - Rear Cover $ 20.50
14-80134L01 - DB-25 Insulator $ 1.75
03-84244C06 - Wing Screws, 5mm x 10, .8 pitch, Black (2 / package)
$ .85
07-80217L01 - Trunnion Adapter Bracket $ 3.05 (order 2 for each
panel)
43-80127J01 - Trunnion Spacer $ 1.95 (order 2 for each panel)
|
- Batlabs has
rear DB-25 pin out for this switch box.
- You can use the switch part numbers to customize the number
of locking and momentary switches, if you are handy with a soldering
iron. It might also be possible to get the switch innards
out without unsoldering it and swap them (I have not tired this
and will someday when I get one of these cards).
- Hopefully more than one label comes with the 54-80068L01
Function Labels part number? I think it may be an entire sheet
of labels????
- I must have fallen through a looking glass and down a rabbit
hole, yes the plastic front cover really is $ 72.50 retail.
- The Systems 9000 control head Long Trunnion Bracket listed
in the control head parts above can mount
a Systems 9000 control head and a Auxiliary Switch Panel together
(4 Trunnion Spacers will be required) without using the above
Auxiliary Switch Panel Trunnion Adapter Brackets. This Trunnion
Bracket is the large one with 2 pairs of mounting holes. This
Long Trunnion Bracket must be attached above the DEK and Systems
9000 control head for this to work. The Long Trunnion Bracket
has detents for the above Trunnion Adapter Brackets.
- The Systems 9000 control head Long Trunnion Bracket listed
in the control head parts above can also
be used to mount 2 Auxiliary Switch Panels.
- The Short Trunnion Bracket listed in the control
head parts above does not have detents for the Auxiliary
Switch Panel Trunnion Adapter Bracket above. However, a single
Auxiliary Switch Panel can be mounted in this bracket.
- The above Wing Screws look like speaker wing screws, but
they have a slightly different size screw. Speaker wing screws
will go into the DEK, but will always feel loose. Control head
/ DEK wing screws will not go very far into the speaker before
the threads bind up.
Vehicle Repeater System (VRS) parts:
The VRS is located inside an External Options Housing or inside
a Siren/PA housing. Here are some part numbers used in converting
the VRS (and the retail price when this section was created):
01-06711T02 - Spectra "SP02" microprocessor
$ 71.25
26-06360T01 - Shield, Low Profile Siren/PA and VRS combination
unit $ 41.10
|
- The Spectra "SP02" microprocessor is used to convert
Syntor X 9000 VRS "SP01" into a Spectra "SP02"
VRS. Before getting the chip to upgrade a VRS to SP02, try it
with the SP01 chip first. It has been reported that sometimes
the SP01 chip will work with some Spectra/RSS configurations.
- The VRS circuit board can be placed inside a Siren/PA housing
(for either the Syntor X 9000 or Spectra). When this is done
the Internal Option Boards Shield in the original Siren/PA must
be replaced with the low profile shield above. R36 and C102 are
removed from the Siren/PA board to allow attaching the VRS circuit
board power wires (the wires attach to the same place they were
at in the original VRS External Options Housing circuit board).
- If you have an early HLN1185A Siren/PA, which only works
on a Syntor X 9000, you can not use the HKN4246
cable after the VRS is installed. You will need to upgrade to
a HKN4304 cable. If you have the HLN4925A
Personality Board you will need to install a jumper
from the cable A pin to pin 12 for the new cable. You may also
need to update your Personality Board U501
firmware (first try it out as is)?
- Any housing (either Siren/PA or External Options) with a
VRS installed has no room at all for any Internal
Option Boards.
- If you take a Siren/PA and install a VRS inside of it, you
can use the old Siren/PA Internal
Option Boards Shield on the External Options Housing circuit
board (this is the board the VRS used to connect to before it
was moved into the Siren/PA enclosure). When you reassemble the
old VRS housing it becomes a fully functional External Options
Housing that can hold a maximum of two Internal
Option Boards.
- If you do the Siren/PA/VRS combination conversion be careful.
It is easy for a good technician to do, but you are playing with
the Siren/PA board unswitched A+ voltage supplied by the large
red power wire and BIG fuse. Mistakes can be costly as small
PC board traces and wires will vaporize long before this BIG
fuse even thinks about blowing.
- Check both the Siren/PA and VRS to make sure they work before
combining them. You can use the Siren/PA cable to test each one,
one at a time (leave the large red fuse power lead out when testing
the VRS). Repair any problems you find before starting the conversion.
