By using this RASCAL�� interface and a program like MMTTY, you are able to use the FSK feature built into your ICOM 706 and IC 718 for RTTY. The advantage of FSK over AFSK, is the use of the radio's built-in narrow FSK & CW filters. Some transceivers do not enable use of these filters in the LSB or USB modes. When radios that do not permit the filters to be used on LSB mode, RTTY only can operate using the sometimes distorted and noisy (AFSK) sound that comes from the PC sound card. The FSK and CW filters operate within the IF if the transceiver and therefore are able to shape the bandpass for a cleaner and superior processed signal.
