NOTICE: If your comport fails to activate PTT, your O/S may be holding the RTS line high. If this is the case with your PC comport, the following may be the "fix" for PCees with this problem (running early versions of 2000, and XP upgrades):

Download DLPORTIO which enables the proper operation of COMports and LPT ports running under Windows 2000 and XP upgrades. Extract the three files from the dlportio.zip file into the same directory as your PSK, SSTV, or MMTTY software:

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: Read this now ! When operating PSK31, SSTV, RTTY, etc using your PC sound card; READ close and understand these digital operating rules. You should always set the RASCAL and SoundCard gain (transmit) controls of your transceiver at 50% or less than half its rated power output. Most HF transceivers are NOT rated for 100% duty cycle in key-down modes. PSK31, SSTV, & RTTY are KEY DOWN modes. I've learned this lesson long ago... the hard way. These settings may change a small amount as you move from one band to another. When operating PSK31, SSTV, or RTTY/FSK on the HF bands: Don't use the audio speech processor, turn it OFF. Don't drive your transceiver into ALC action. Don't run your transceiver at full RF output power, adjust output power to 50% or less of its rated power output. Be sure you have your software configured correct. Insure that your RASCAL serial comport plug is inserted into the PC comport that is selected in the software "settings" icon. Reference WINPSK to initially set up RASCAL, PC and Radio.
The HF PSK31 frequencies are as follows: 160 meters - 1.807 80 meters - 3.580 40 meters - 7.070 30 meters - 10.140 20 meters - 14.070 Beginners, Start Here. 15 meters - 21.070 10 meters - 28.120 Operation of PSK31 is typically in USB mode, thus the actual operating frequencies will range from the lower frequency, upward by three (3) kHz. In theory, this means that you can plunk a hundred, 31 Hz, PSK31 signals into the same spectrum as one SSB signal might occupy.
RASCAL/MIC Switch for transceivers without an accessory jack. EZ switch'n between MIC and RASCAL, Just Flip the switch. It's great when operating SSTV, and modes requiring both voice and digital interaction. The 5 pin DIN at "A" plugs into the RASCAL I/O jack, the Screw-On connector at "B" connects to the radio mic jack.
